Сoca-Cola's bottler in Indonesia is systematically violating workers' rights in an effort to stamp out independent and democratic trade unions. And Coca-Cola corporate management in the USA knows the full history but has failed to remedy the abuses.
In 2015 Coca-Cola workers in Indonesia began organizing independent unions, which were legally registered. Management responded by harassing members and taking disciplinary action against the leaders. Union chairmen were suspended and sacked, and the company has refused to enter into negotiations on a collective bargaining agreement.
The International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) has repeatedly called on management at all levels and the Coca-Cola Company in the USA to remedy these blatantly anti-union practices. There has been no positive response from anyone.
This week, the IUF launched an online campaign to bring pressure to bear on the global giant. Please join me in sending a strong message to Coca-Cola, telling them to reinstate the dismissed union leaders, to stop harassing and victimizing union leaders, and to enter into good faith collective bargaining negotiations.
